Planning the funeral

Our dear friend Bubi Oppermann was finally called home.  He had been bedridden for over a year with cancer and the Lord finally allowed him to not only walk but fly back. His desire was to die at home and that wish was granted.  The doctor and nurses took great care of him but his sweet wife Ans is the one who was always at his side to do what ever was needed.  Her health has really suffered because of it and now she will be getting the rest and medical help she so desperately needs.  Now we will all be able to be there for her so that she will be able to do all those things that have been put aside for a long time.

Ans and her children want an American funeral with lunch for all and also wants it to be a happy time, she asked me to make it look cheery and colorful.  I have done tons and tons of funerals back home so this should be easy.  I have asked the missionaries to help me in the kitchen because they have proven to be fantastic in there when I needed them.  There are not many woman in the branch who are able or willing to help so our young "kids" will be great.

We have attended funerals here in the mission field and they are very depressing.  No flowers to speak of and after the service those wanting to stay were served tea or coffee along with a cookies.  That's it. Some families go to a restaurant after for a meal but most just head home. I hope we won't be creating a problem for the next funeral to be help after we leave.
