Luydmilla's step son called Tuesday night to tell us not to come Wednesday morning as planned. He told us that his mother was gone and did not know when she would return. The little children could be heard in the background.
We have since heard little bits and pieces of what might be happening. Apparently a judge just declared again that they must return to Russia. No chance for another appeal. The three youngest children were born here in the Netherlands and may not be able to return with them if the Russian government will not issue them a visa and allow them into the country. I can not imagine separating three small children from their mother. The father refuses to go back because of some conflict he had with the authorities there and will probably go somewhere else illegally to avoid being deported. Even if Luydmilla goes back with the children she really has no place to live or a way to support them.
We can see no way for us to help her right now, the whole situation lies totally in the hands of the Lord. All we can really do is pray for them. Those children need to be with their mother. I would not be surprised if they all suddenly disappear and we don't hear what really happened to them.
One of the most difficult things about this mission has been to see people in trouble and not truly being able to help them. These serious problems can not me fixed with a visit and a plate of cookies.
