About three months ago we went up to Heerlen in the Netherlands for the Elders apartment check there. While we were there we went looking for my mothers sister Ans (they have not spoken to each other in years and years because of hard feelings of some sort) Her last known address was only about 5 minutes away from the Elders. Well to make a long story even longer, she had moved away to somewhere near Utrecht about 5 years ago but no one knows for sure but her sweet neighbor lady gave us the name of a man who used to pick up donations from my aunt. The man, Mr. Dielleman and his wife have sort of adopted a village in Romania and he and a group of his friends drive there several times a year to deliver the goods. I was blown away with their place and when we went back there again last week I just had to take pictures. We still have no more information about my aunt and we do not even know is she is still living but have now made friends with this generous couple. The Mrs. spends most of her time just boxing up every and anything they can get their hands on and gets it ready for the long long trek. The village is far over the Romanian border with only poor dirt roads that are very hard to travel. They do not see much of the outside world and are dependent on these donations for most everything. Mr. Dielleman has collected donations from all over and has just recently arranged for a backhoe to clear some of the muddy roads. Apparently there is plenty of gravel around so they can cover the mud. Most of the people in the village are gypsies and live there from cradle to grave and there are just a handful or people who are able to teach any kind of basic reading and math skills in the shack they call a school. Blankets are handed out each visit and when they run out they give numbers to the rest who will then get first chance the next time they bring a shipment.
There are several cloisters around the village and the nuns paint eggs for the Diellemans to sell back here in Holland and Belgium. I could not resist buying some of course. The pictures were taken in the shed attached to the house that they use as a workshop but their home looks just about the same. As you can see it gets a little tight in the place and I could not hang around too long. Can you tell that they collect hats?

Wow. Even makes my house look clean.
It makes my painting area not look so bad - just the same I think I'll clean and reaarrange it this weekend.
