Toy lawnmower

No it was not really a toy but it sure looked and sounded like one. Bro. Willems has not been able to mow his lawn since his knee replacement surgery so we thought we would help. Well, the mower is only about 10 or 12 inches wide and is electric. Not really too bad when you realize that most lawns here are about as big as our front room at home. It would have been easier to cut it down with a pair of scissors however instead of dodging the cord the whole time around the patches of flowers. The European people love flowers, and you can see them everywhere all summer long. It seems strange not to have to water everything the way we do at home. Here mother nature takes care of that frequently. I think this was the first time Ben has mowed the lawn in a white shirt and a tie, and I never thought I would ever be pulling weeds in a dress and nylons. It was great fun and very very appreciated.

We visited with a young mother with a six year old son. The Elders call him Spider Man because he is all over the place and pretty out of control. They are from India and are really struggling to get by. The father went back to India and left the mother and son here. She would like to stay here and learn the language so that she can get a job. She contacted the Elders and wanted them to stop by. Since she is a single woman we went along. There are tons of women here who are alone so we really come in handy for the Elders.

We also visited a mother with two daughters from Suriname who speak the Netherlands language beautifully. It was refreshing to hear them speak without the Belgium accent. So much easier to understand, they are planning on coming to church tomorrow. I really think they will come.

Before our appointments today we went to a Rummage Sale and were able to buy some very need dishes for our sparse kitchen.

Yesterday we spent the day trying to locate some of the people on our in-actives list the bishop gave us. Some had moved and some are unknown and we even had one who tried very hard to avoid us. We even went back but got the message. We went to one by mistake because I had written down the wrong address, but it ended up being a woman who was baptized years ago and lost interest. We may get to talk to her again, she was very friendly and her elderly mother who happened to be visiting and is a member told us to come back. Who knows?

I love the stories of missionary work. I'll never cease to be amazed how our "mistakes" and such are acutally the Lord putting us right where He needs us to be. Keep up the good work; you're in our prayers.
