Members? yes, Christians? maybe
It is sometimes really difficult to watch how some very sweet people sometimes treat their fellow men (or women) We had a very uncomfortable situation is Sacrament Meeting today that really helped the spirit walk right out the door. One single mom's phone made some noise and another sister sitting in front of her made a very loud and rude comment. The sister with the phone grabbed her children and headed out the door to go home with tears streaming down her cheeks. I hurried after her and talked her into coming back, which she did. Yes, phones should be turned off but can't we be a little tolerant of each other's mistakes. The sister making the comment was very friendly and hospitable when we visited her just before Christmas and yes she is Dutch and yes we all know how outspoken we are but this was not appropriate at all. What makes us so easy to jump in and criticize someone else when we have so many corrections in our own lives that should first be taken care of.
Our Branch President was one of the speakers after the incident and he commented on how we should be kind to each other especially in our homes. It is so easy to be so unkind and thoughtless to our loved ones that it would be difficult for an outsider to see that we are family and truly love each other. Would we be uncaring if the Savior were in our midst? I think not, so why now?
The rest of the meetings were good and I was even able to translate for a sweet investigator from Vietnam by the name of Kim. She started coming a few weeks ago and has been receiving the lessons from the Elders. She was very gracious and said she would be back next week. She understands almost no Dutch and very little English but I was able to help her understand the subject as best I could. We also had two investigators from Saint Marten who we have taught with the Elders and both of these girls are attending meetings every week and coming along very nicely in understanding the gospel. One of the girls by the name of Trushna is being baptized on the 26th of Jan. She is here to study and will be going back to the Island after she graduates. Hopefully she will continue along the right path.
Yes, we are plugging along and trying to do the best we can. We are able to climb some mountains even though we cannot move them. We will just keep at it until we get it right.
