This funeral business is becoming the activity of the month. This week the funeral was for our Relief Society's counselor's ex husband. They split up years ago when she joined the church and he became a "drunk" as she puts it. Hugo just went in for minor leg surgery and died on the operating table. I am leaving strict orders that in the event of a medical emergency that can not be handled at the military medical clinic, I am to be shipped home immediately. I would rather die back home thank you.
After the funeral I stayed for about 6 hours so that the R.S. Presidency and yours truly could prepare a feast for the regional singles over 30's gala. After watching some of those singles trying to decorate and set the tables I can see why they are single. They just all stand around and look helpless until someone shows them how to blow up a balloon. The party was to begin at 5:00 and when the eager party goers started coming at 4:30 you should have heard all the complaining and moaning going on. About ten minutes into the party we thought about opening all the doors and windows just to air out the place because some of the men were drenched in cheap after shave and it was impossible to breath. Oh did I tell you that here in Belgium the only people who prepare and clean up are the committee members assigned to do the job? (Usually just the R.S. Presidency and me) I have never attended a ward party back home where at the end of the evening all the people attending did not clean up and put away tables and chairs. I thought that was part of membership in the church. I'm sure it must be one of the questions before baptism. Actually part of the agreement with the party goers this time was that we would cook and they would clean up the place themselves, so the four of us ducked out when the food was ready to serve. I can only imagine the chaos of cleaning up and clearing out before morning so that we could have church today.
