Merry Christmas

This was probably Bro. Oppermanns last Christmas although he is a pretty tough guy and may hang in there longer than we think.  He and his wife have been our great friends both during our last mission and now during our stay here.  They always make us feel welcome when we come and it is a place where we can just kick back and relax.  Their children live in the U.S. and Canada and it has been difficult for Sister Oppermann to handle the whole situation by herself.  His cancer has spread throughout his body and he has basically come home to die.  He is very calm about it all but feels bad about leaving his wife behind. They have both served in the church for years and years.  He was Bishop in Amsterdam three different times and they served a mission in Russia together where they lived under some very primitive conditions.

We made sure all the Jo Vos and Missionaries had plans for Christmas day and then we headed out to Kollum a cute village about  30 minutes drive from our place to spend the day with this sweet couple, and yes, I did do the cooking, they love every meal I make and that makes it more fun.
