So on what day will summer come this year?
Snow is beautiful but only for about a day, after which it just turns into muddy slush. The wind has really been kicking up lately and living right next to water makes it really really cold. I think it does make us appreciate the good weather so much more when it does appear once in while.
We had a great day yesterday. Jennie, one of our JoVos spoke in church before leaving to go to Germany on a mission. Growing up her parents had told her that she had to attend church until she reached the age of 18 and then it would be up to her. She has a rebellious streak in her so she stopped going and met up with some very scary friends. Her life was really heading down the wrong path until one day she saw the light and came back. We have really seen a difference in her since we first arrived, and she is now a radiant young woman ready to go out and share the gospel. It has truly been a miracle.
Her cousin Donna wandered into family home evening last Monday night and really surprised everyone. We had never met her but had been told by her parents of her wrong choices and her drug filled lifestyle. She started drugging herself when she was 14 years old and has been in and out of treatment centers. She is now in her thirties and lives on the streets most of the time. She basically came in from the cold knowing there would be a warm meal for her. We tried to talk to her but she was way too far out of it to really communicate with us coherently and even became quite belligerent at one point. She will always be welcome and we will be happy to feed her but will not however giver her money to pay for her bad habits. Jennie was very shaken by the whole event and told me later that the main reason she was so upset was because had she (Jennie) not changed her life around, it could have been her walking in to keep warm and eat.
