WHY, WHY, WHY are they doing this?
Sometimes it is really difficult to watch some very sweet people being destroyed by the government. There seems to be an epidemic of dependency here. The more physical or mental problems that can be invented to attached to a person, the more assistance that individual may receive from the establishment.
Sunday we were invited again to a member's home for dinner. Of course I took most of the meal but that is beside the point. She as well as each of the friends she had invited are being supported by all sorts of programs. Nurses that come in up to four times a day to either put on or take off stockings, (too difficult to bend over) hand you your pills (just in case it is too difficult to remember when to take them), tucking you into bed and placing your sleep mask on correctly (Ben does this all by himself each night without help, in the dark if I am already asleep, such a smart boy), or just plain doing what ever, just so that the nurse can sign off your little book in order to receive her pay at the end of the month.
Free taxi service is provided up to 1500 kilometers a month for those who can't drive or feel uncomfortable being around others on a bus or train. Oh yes! I forgot, They also receive a scoot mobile to dash over to the shopping center to get what they want each day, leaving it parked there so that they can wander around the center and spend the day in a crowd of people who also don't feel comfortable being around others.
Now here comes the best part, the ailments they describe to us are the same ones that most of my friends back home as well as yours truly have each day. Tiring easily, sore muscles, weak knees or hips, troubles opening jars, getting out of breath when climbing stairs or not feeling like going to work.
We love these people but they just can not see what is happening. They all have psychological sessions each week with their shrinks so that they will be able to handle all their problems. Don't they realize that the problem is all the hand outs they receive making them incapable to care for themselves. I fear for the younger generation here. What lies ahead for them? The millennium could not come fast enough for these folks.
